Books I Should Have Read In High School

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The all American classic about mega mogul Jay Gatsby told from the perspective of Nick Carraway.  Set in the roaring 20's  during probation  Nick Carraway  narrates the story as the history of Jay Gatsby and Daisey Buchanan begins to unfold.

Truthfully I can remember being assigned this book as a high school freshman, and I can say with all honestly that I never read more and a dozen pages at most.  As an adult I decided to turn a new leaf and re-explore the classics... However Gatsby may not have been the best place to start.

Although the writing is vivid and I could almost see the grand Gatsby parties happening around me, there were soooooooo many characters introduced and none of them were developed enough to make me feel really invested in their out come.... not even Gatsby.

The book is a relatively short read and it made for a great book club theme but not something it would reread in the near future.
